Randell C. Stoney, Jr.

A review of Randell Stoney’s vocations and avocations leaves a decided impression: he is a steward as well as an attorney. Consider his service on the Advisory Board for the Center for Heirs Property, a non-profit organization formed to protect the property rights of “family land” owned by low-income residents of the Low Country; or his planting of rice plots for wildlife such as deer, turkey, and ducks; or his defense of a small business against a frivolous lawsuit. What description is better than steward?

For 40 years, Stoney has focused his law practice on-premises and product liability, construction law and litigation, and general liability. He holds an AV Martindale-Hubbell rating, representing the highest level of professional excellence, and is listed in Best Lawyers of America in the areas of Construction Law, Construction Litigation, Personal Injury-Defendants, and Product Liability Litigation-Defendants. Best Lawyers lists Stoney as the 2021 Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants Lawyer of the Year for the Charleston, SC metro market. He has regularly been listed in the editions of South Carolina Super Lawyers and in 2016 is listed as a Top Rated Civil Litigation Attorney. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute, the South Carolina Defense Trial Lawyers Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), and The American Board of Trial Advocates.

Stoney has deep roots in Charleston and the Low Country. His grandfather began practicing law in Charleston over 100 years ago. Prior to entering private practice, Stoney served as both assistant ninth circuit solicitor for Charleston County and as deputy solicitor for Berkeley County.

Over the years, he has been actively involved with the American Cancer Society, and he has served on the board of directors for Goodwill Industries and for the Preservation Society of Charleston, as chairman of the Commissioners of the Pilotage for the Port of Charleston, and as junior warden of St. John’s Berkeley. He is a former member of the alumni board at the College of Charleston, past president of the Charleston County Bar Association, and currently serves on the advisory board for the Center for Heirs Property. Mr. Stoney is a member of the Trident Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees and the Campbell College Board of Trustees. He serves on the Vestry of St. James Goose Creek and the Executive Committee of the Berkeley County Bar Association.
