Ernest Lipscomb Joins IP Practice

Charleston, S.C. – Ernest Lipscomb, author of the seminal eleven-volume treatise in the patent field, Lipscombs Walker on Patents, author of Lipscomb’s Patent Claims, lecturer, and practicing attorney of 40 years, has joined Barnwell Whaley Patterson and Helms as Counsel in the Intellectual Property Division of the firm.
Mr. Lipscomb most recently practiced as a partner with law firm of Alston and Bird in Charlotte North Carolina, with a concentration in chemical, pharmaceutical and medical device patents. In addition, Mr. Lipscomb has served as an expert witness in numerous patent litigations.
Mr. Lipscomb has more than 15 years experience as lead intellectual counsel to major United States corporations such as Westvaco, Revlon Inc., and Rorer Group, Inc. In addition, he has served as an Examiner in the United States Patent Office.
He is a frequent speaker to many Intellectual Property Law organizations, including the Carolina Patent, Trademark, Copyright Law Association, of which he is a member. Mr. Lipscomb is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the New York Patent Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society, and the Association of Corporate Patent Counsel.
Mr. Lipscomb received his J.D. and his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Mississippi. He received his LLM in Patent and Trademark Registration Law from George Washington University. He is admitted to practice before The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and numerous United States Federal District Courts. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark office and the South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi and New York Bar Associations.
