Ferderigos becomes Member, Barfield Special Counsel

Charleston, S.C. – Barnwell Whaley Patterson & Helms is pleased to announce that Phillip Ferderigos has become a Member of the firm. Mr. Ferderigos concentrates his practice in the areas of workers’ compensation, civil litigation, insurance defense, personal injury, products liability, professional negligence and toxic torts.

Mr. Ferderigos received his B.A. (summa cum laude) from the College of Charleston and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

At the College of Charleston, he was a Harrison Randolph Scholar, a Top Honor Graduate, a member of the Honors Program (outstanding student & department honors) and winner of the Alumni Junior Medal.

He served as an intern with the Honorable Robert S. Carr, Federal Magistrate Judge for South Carolina. While in law school, Phillip was a Merit Scholar, served as a member on the Board of the Pro Bono Program and was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Society of the Wig and Robe. He was also a member of and served on the South Carolina Law Review and the South Carolina Moot Court Bar where he represented the University of South Carolina in the 1997 Wagnert Labor Law Moot Court competition. He was an Adjunct Professor at the Charleston School of Law from 2004-2006 where he taught Legal Writing and Research.

Mr. Ferderigos is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association, National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Educational Association.

Michael Barfield, a Barnwell Whaley attorney at lawIn addition, the firm announces that Michael Barfield has been named Special Counsel. Charleston, SC native Michael Barfield focuses his practice in the areas of professional negligence, construction litigation, commercial litigation, property related litigation and personal injury.
A graduate of Furman University (BA), Mr. Barfield received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina. While in law school, he was the Articles Editor on the student editorial board of the ABA Real Property, the Probate and Trusts Journal; and a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.

Mr. Barfield is a member of the Charleston County, South Carolina and American Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice in all South Carolina courts, including the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, as well as the Federal District Courts.

He is active in the Charleston community as a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Mark United Methodist Church, and serves as Attorney Coach of West Ashley High School Mock Trial Team.
